O Holy Night

Catholic blog diva, matriarch and vocal arts enthusiast Anchoress links Aled Jones (unknown to me) singing O Holy Night across the dividing years of his younger and older selves. Nice.

Actually, my favorite version of this song is Mariah Carey's.

Now, tell me truly, Porthos. Was it the song or the red dress?

It was the song, honest! I fell in love with Mariah's audio version of this song years ago. In fact, if she'd quit trying to be Beyonce/Paris/Britney and concentrate on what she does best--sing gospel--she would achieve greatness. Alas.

Only caught sight of the You-Tube this morning, when I was listening to the Aled Jones. Scout's honor.

A note: O Holy Night is on Mariah's Christmas album (borrowed a CD and made a cassette copy several years ago and my family listens to it every year). It's a real mixed collection, with a lot of schlock (including the schlocky hit, "All I Want for Christmas Is You"). However, her version of Silent Night (also straight gospel) is pretty good. By and large, though, O Holy Night is the only worthy song on the album.
