Model Rocketry Meets Dentistry

How cool is this? My Dad only offered to pull out a loose tooth with a pair of pliers. [H/t: Borderline Sociopathic Blog for Boys]

May You Learn the Easy Way

Ah, yes. Well do I remember lying flat on my back after polishing my shoes as a lad, one shoe perched far above my face on the flat of my foot, until it ... well, never mind. My nose learned the law of gravity in one fell swoop. Here's to other fine fellows who learn things the bumpy way.

Trailer = Caravan, 007 Style

You know, it's snowing outside - hard. 12"-20" predicted. How I long for those sunny, summer vacations pulling our pop-up trailer hither and yon. Perhaps you didn't know that for Brits, "trailers" are known as "caravans." Sadly, the Top Gear boys have been on a single-handed crusade to rid the roadways of England of said caravans, destroying them with wanton glee in various and sundry ways.

Okay, fair enough. They can't picture a Ferrari pulling a Coleman camper. I won't eschew their taste. Perhaps we can strike a compromise. Get the "caravan" to the campground by an unique and scenic method, AND have the hot car to drive once we get there.

The below video is a tribute to such ingenuity.

Bacon Your Pardon

You know, I've had rare experiences that Lewis described as Joy in my life, usually unbid, unlooked for, unrepeatable. Now, finally, someone has done the unthinkable, unimaginable. It seems that Joy - or something near to it - can indeed be purchased (be still my foolish heart). You may find the path to it for yourself here.

Hut! Hut! HUT!

To commemorate the first Sunday of NFL coverage, two items for fans. First, the story of a super young man, Michael Oher (pronounced 'Orr'), rookie Left Tackle of the Baltimore Ravens (74). Watch for the upcoming movie version of The Blind Side (2009) of Michael's life story.

He hasn't lived long enough for a "life story?" Just wait, ju....st wait. I've read the true story. This will be the better than fiction; better than
The Natural, better than Field of Dreams. His foster mama is played by Sandra Bullock, and she nails the spirit of Michael's real foster mother.

Next, a re-post of the scary accurate passing arm of New Orleans' Drew Brees. He is a god. Watch Bree throw for the record of passing yards this year.

Scouting Sans Mischief

Things are getting so absolutely crazy, I am glad that I was a Boy Scout, Troop #69, Elkhart, Indiana.

Be Prepared is our Scouting motto. I have survived a Brown Bear attack (or encounter - it drew blood) at Philmont National Scout Ranch. I have a bow saw (MUCH better than a hand ax, trust me on this) and all the skills proffered by Scouting.

If you haven't whittled, started a fire, slept chin up under the stars, done your duty to God and to country, more's the pity.
