Making of a Saint - Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Mass ends diocesan stage of Sheen's path to sainthood

PEORIA -- Father Andrew Apostoli wryly mentioned an old saying in his homily Sunday that if your are going to be canonized you should not write too much. He was speaking during a Mass of thanksgiving for Archbishop Fulton Sheen, a native of El Paso who became famous as a television and radio personality and writer...

In his homily, Apostoli told of Fulton’s sense of humor, as expressed in his acceptance speech after winning the Emmy for outstanding television personality in 1952. Sheen thanked his script writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Apostoli also praised Sheen for having spoken against contraception, abortion and euthanasia. He said that Sheen is “still very much the voice of the church.”

Fulton Sheen obviously still plays in Peoria, now the question is will he play in Rome?

Fulton Sheen on Freedom

Note well what the Archbishop says about freedom to draw a triangle, as long as it has 3 sides. If one chooses to be magnanimous and give a square 5 sides, it is no longer a square ... So, when it a marriage not a marriage, regardless of what a merely human legislature or judiciary defines a marriage to be?

Originally, there was a nifty You Tube clip of Archbishop Sheen on freedom, but ... someone in his infinite wisdom decided to make that "no longer available." Fortunately for us, my brother-in-arms Aramis went and found a transcript of the great man Fulton Sheen that speaks to the matter at hand: freedom. Thanks to Aramis, you can read said transcript here.
